Yorkshire Air Spectacular (9 & 10/08/2003)

Once again the model airshow attracted the crowds to Rufforth Airfield near York, United Kingdom. With jet engine powered models such as the Vulcan and Victor it is difficult to pick  a star of the show but the 1/2 scale Bristol Bulldog certainly had a lot of fans. Sadly the wind got up on Sunday and a model Venom went out of control nose-diving into the runway - although it was no danger to the crowds the model broke into many pieces. Photos of the event will appear on this site soon. View video clips & photographs

YORKSHIRE AIR MUSEUM TRY TO SAVE SOLE SURVIVING BLACKBURN BEVERLEY (2003)

bev1.jpg (61032 bytes)

Following the sad closure of the Museum of Military Transport in Beverley, East Yorkshire, UK, the Yorkshire Air Museum have approached the official receivers with a view to saving the only   surviving   Blackburn Beverley C.1 transport aircraft. The RAF museum tragically destroyed their own example - XH124.

Used from the 1950s to 60s before being replaced by the C130 Hercules,   these aircraft had rear clamshell doors and large cargo holds with space in the tail boom for passengers and a hatch for paratroops.

The cost of moving the massive Beverley is estimated at £135,000. The museum is asking for support  (www.yorkshireairmuseum.co.uk)

The aircraft was nearly scrapped before being rescued by the Museum of Military Transport in Beverley and has been a major attraction and familiar site for anyone passing through for many years. It is only hoped that it can be saved again.
